RECORD GCSE RESULTS
Darland High School is delighted to report record GCSE exam results for their Year 11 this year. 77% of our students achieved their Level 2 Threshold (5 A*-C GCSE grades or equivalent), constituting an 11% improvement on last year and making these results the best yet in the school’s history. Among the highest achieving students in the school were Yu She from Rhosddu, with 11 A* grades, Fred Norman from Rossett, with 7 A* and 2 A grades, Jessica Roberts from Gresford, with 7A* and 2 A grades and William Antony also from Gresford, with 7 A* and 4 A grades.
These excellent results from the school complement a similar record breaking achievement in Key Stage 3 in July of this year, when Year 9 performance outstripped national averages by over 20%.
The Headteacher, Peter Agnew, expressed his delight with the results, saying ‘Our thanks go to the dedicated effort of both staff and students. Our new facilities, due to open in a few months time, will further enhance the opportunities for learning and improvement at Darland.’

Wear it PINK
It's Time To Beat Breast Cancer
On Friday 23rd October the whole school donated money to wear pink for a day and show our support for 'Breast Cancer Campaign'. Even though Year 11 were out of school on work experience, donations exceeded the £400. A fantastic atmosphere and we were proud to be part of this vital campaign.

For over 20 years Darland School has organized its own Young Musician of the Year competition. Approximatley 100 performers are listened to by Mrs Evans and trophies are awarded for three seperate categories - an instrumental, a piano and a vocal competition.
This year's winners had their trophies presented to them during Open Evening. The overall winner was Charlotte Thomas 11Y. |

This year's Harvest celebration saw many aspects of our school community working together, to produce our best yet.
Guests who attended the service were accompanied by Year 7 pupils who had contributed food donations for the Harvest display which were later donated to 'Save the Family'. A collection was also held, proceeds of which will go to the 'Mayors Fund' and a local playgroup.
Our guests, parents, grandparents, headteachers from local primaries and Rev Suter, together with Year 7 were entertained by a performance by the Year 10 Drama group. Year 7 and 10 groups from the Modern Foreign Languages department together with contributions from pupils studying welsh.
Individual spell-binding performances were given by Charlotte Thomas 11Y and Miriam Nemmaoui 8R.
The Year 10 R.S. group were excellent hosts and offered a warm welcome to all who attended. The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress were impressed by all participating pupils, complimenting the school on their warm welcome, both thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon.

Darland School
50th Anniversary Celebrations
Darland School 50th Anniversary Celebrations Continued by marking the official opening of the school with a special gathering of pupils, staff, governors and visitors.
Images of Darland's past entertained the audience and Year 10 pupils introduced each decade of Darland's history and guest speakers described their experience of the school. Mrs M. Peters who taught history and and RE when the school first opened explained how Darland's curriculum was originally focused on the community needs and horticulture. Mr Bowden who taught at Darland for many, many years and is still known to current pupils as an occasional supply teacher explained how the relationship between staff and pupils at Darland has always been a productive and special feature.
Mrs Buirski, a long serving governor and chair of governors until this year, spoke of the role of the school in the community. Mr McGivern, former assistant headteacher and governot, reminded the audience of Darlands innovations and of its special atmosphere. Pupils, Jessica Roberts and Laura Vasey, entertained the audience with excellent songs from musicals and Charlotte Thomas played a lovely flute version of a 'Take That' song.
Proceedings were closed by Rev. Suter with a prayer and best wishes for the future. Celebrations continue on 7th July with a Summer Concert of Performing Arts to which all are invited. The whole event confirmed Darland's special role at the heart of the community.
