Wear it PINK

It's Time To Beat Breast Cancer

On Friday 23rd October the whole school donated money to wear pink for a day and show our support for 'Breast Cancer Campaign'.  Even though Year 11 were out of school on work experience, donations exceeded the £400.  A fantastic atmosphere and we were proud to be part of this vital campaign.

Musical Examinations

Above are Darland pupils who were entered for Associated Board and Trinity Board Music Examinations in July.  The photograph was taken after a whole school assembly in September when the pupils were presented with their certificates.

For over 20 years Darland School has organized its own Young Musician of the Year competition.  Approximatley 100 performers are listened to by Mrs Evans and trophies are awarded for three seperate categories - an instrumental, a piano and a vocal competition.

This year's winners had their trophies presented to them during Open Evening.  The overall winner was Charlotte Thomas 11Y.

by Donna Adcock - Friday, 23 October 2009, 01:10 PM

Open Day

Darland was very proud to have the Mayor and Mayoress attend our Open Day on 15th October, 2009

An enjoyable evening was had by all our guests and visitors who commented on the high standard of the displays as well as the enthusiasm of all the pupils involved.

"The warmth of the welcome by both staff and pupils made me feel happy to be at Darland.  I am going to bring my son on a visit because I feel this is the place for him."  This is jusy one of many compliments paid to pupils and staff.

Many pupils were happy and proud to show visitors around and be involved in the activities in a range of areas. Thanks goes to all pupils involved.

Harvest Festival
by Donna Adcock - Friday, 23 October 2009, 11:29 AM

Year 10 Drama Group

This year's Harvest celebration saw many aspects of our school community working together, to produce our best yet.

Guests who attended the service were accompanied by Year 7 pupils who had contributed food donations for the Harvest display which were later donated to 'Save the Family'.  A collection was also held, proceeds of which will go to the 'Mayors Fund' and a local playgroup.

Our guests, parents, grandparents, headteachers from local primaries and Rev Suter, together with Year 7 were entertained by a performance by the Year 10 Drama group.  Year 7 and 10 groups from the Modern Foreign Languages department together with contributions from pupils studying welsh.

Individual spell-binding performances were given by Charlotte Thomas 11Y and Miriam Nemmaoui 8R.

The Year 10 R.S. group were excellent hosts and offered a warm welcome to all who attended.  The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress were impressed by all participating pupils, complimenting the school on their warm welcome, both thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon.
